Artist Statement for WOOD SERIES:
Nature is the best storyteller. I have been taking notes. This simple statement holds all of my beliefs in the divinity of the earth and all of us living here on it.
EARTH AIR FIRE WATER:
These four sacred elements have been the basis of my art for as long as I can remember.
Quote From Black Elk Speaks:
“A man who has a vision is not able to use the power of it until after he has performed the vision on earth for the people to see.”
About Janet Inez Adams
Janet Inez Adams grew up in New York City where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York. After serving in the Peace Corps teaching art in South America, Adams received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Cal State University Fullerton. She has taught art to all age levels in OC schools.
Adams’ exhibitions and awards include many local and national venues, both public and private. Her interests in Aesthetic Anthropology and Children’s Art have led to travels, research, collecting, and efforts to bring artists into California public schools to help nurture the creative imagination of the young.
Meditation and the desire to heal personal and global concerns continue to be the focus of Adams’ art. Nature, especially in the Rocky Mountains where she lives part of the year, has been a continuing source of her imagery and materials.
